The short answer is yes, but you might not like the results. Depending on which version of Plone you are using this method will work to varying degrees. Later version of Plone (2.1 and higher) are pretty good about taking out the extra formatting that copying from Word creates. Still, you may have to take out extra line breaks to get your page to look right.
A work-around is to simply copy content from Word and paste it into Notepad. From there copy the content out of Notepad and paste it into Plone. This removes all the extra formatting that comes from copying out of Word. Subsequently, you also lose visible formatting such as bold text, different fonts, and so on.
The bottom line is that it is best to write content directly in Plone using the content editor. That way you have total control over the formatting using the tools that Plone provides. However, you want to use Word anyway the best advice is to do a minimum of formatting in Word and concentrate mostly on content. Once you've copied your content into Plone, you can use the formatting tools there to get the look you want.
