Information about the LearnPlone project

Our Objective

LearnPlone is a collaborative and community effort to provide fantastic, understandable documentation for content editors and site administrators of Plone-powered website.

LearnPlone is was not created by, nor is maintained by Plone.Org. LearnPlone is the result of a collaboration of Plone developers and enthusiasts.

The Audience

As stated in our objective, this site is intended for content editors and site administrators of Plone-powered websites.  In other words, folks who are responsible for the day-to-day population and operation of a Plone website.  If you're looking for instructions on how to add new sections to your website, insights into what it means to publish or make private a section of content, or need the latest video showing you how to setup a new site administrator, LearnPlone is for you.

We're guessing you don't know the first thing about what all goes into making your Plone website tick.  Furthermore, you don't even care!  If so, you're in the right place.

Of course, sometimes our documentation isn't the most clear or understandable, but that is our intention.  If you see something that could be improved, please don't hesitate to file an issue with the details we need to fix it.  We'll do everything we can to make this an even better resource.

Note: You do not need a login name or password to access the documentation on LearnPlone. We are assuming that you have your own Plone-powered website that you are developing and are visiting LearnPlone to learn more about how to do that.

What LearnPlone Isn't!

LearnPlone is not intended as a resource for people who are doing extensive customizations to Plone or developing add-on Products for Plone -- that's what Plone.org is all about and the increasingly fantastic documentation area.  If you're looking for code, you'll find plenty there.

Who is Responsible for LearnPlone

LearnPlone is a collaborative effort consisting of four fantastic, small partner organizations that, among other things, provide Plone-powered websites for their clients.  Partners include the following and you can find much more information about each by visiting their website:

As our collective number of completed Plone projects increase, we find it more and more compelling to provide solid resources to point our clients towards.  Plone is a fantastically usable, understandable piece of software, but sometimes a user just needs that one missing diagram, screenshot, or video to connect the dots.

If we could have a secondary objective for this site, it's that the growing numbers of other Plone integrators in the community will use this site just as we intended: to enable their clients to get the information needed to successfully manage their own website.   This is why we're committed to providing an un-themed (i.e. Plone "out of the box") version of this site at learnplone.org for everyone to benefit from.
